Icelandic Sheep are a Heritage breed.  They are terrific for growing out on pasture as they have been bred to thrive on grazing alone.  They can grow out to a good weight of 75-100 lbs in as little as 6 or 7 months and each ewe can produce 2 or 3 lambs each season.  As well as having multiple uses on the farm, they are prized for being easy to handle and care for.

The meat produced by this breed is regarded as excellent by those with discerning palates and is noted for being both mild and tender.

In addition to producing wonderful fiber for home spinning or selling to consumers who wish to produce fiber goods they can also be milked.  You should work with a breeder to locate good milky lines if that is your goal with your flock.

Note: Do not think that you can rush nature with these sheep, you can cause major health issues or even death by feeding them corn and grains.  Let them grow as nature intended on good pasture and fresh water.
